A blend of the classic Rhone varieties of Shiraz (90%), Grenache (6%) and Mataró (4%), fruit was picked over a few days in early April, sorted and cold soaked in small fermenters for ten days, before undergoing an extended and gentle maceration, the varietal batches kept separate throughout. Thirty percent of the wine was matured in new oak barriques, the balance went to one and two-year-old barriques for ten months.
Dense inky black colour with a deep black dark red hue. Intense ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas lead the charge with notions of dark plum, subtle smoked meats, earth and pepper also evident. Exceptionally rich and concentrated, the palate is bolder and plusher than previous years, bursting with opulent blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits which hover over a dried meat, scorched earth, subtle vanillin cedar and blackpepper back drop. Ripe chewy tannins provide great structure but are for the most part concealed by the decadent layers of fruit. Magnificent power concluding long and lavish yet also muscular.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
