Main Divide is the second label of Pegasus Bay, their Pinot regularly excelling in the value for money stakes. Produced using traditional Burgundian winemaking methods, various blocks were picked at different stages to ensure a mix of red and dark fruit flavours. Approximately 25% of the grapes were put at the bottom of the fermentation vats as whole bunches, with the balance being destemmed on top, retaining as many whole berries as possible. Maturation took place in French oak barriques, sourced from Burgundian coopers, for a period of 18 months. Approximately 35% of the oak was new.

Rich and fleshy, this is a fuller style of Pinot that shows plenty of torque.

Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. A flurry of ripe dark to black cherries, plum and anise aromas shows plenty of intensity as it wafts thru the nostrils. Also present are inviting elements of light smoky cedar, forest floor, violet and dried herbs. A rich, medium bodied style of Pinot, the palate is generously flavoured with dark cherry, plum and ripe strawberry fruits that have a juicy like quality. Supple in its feel and possessing plenty of power, nuances of anise, lightly toasted cedar and spicy dried herbs move in on the back half. Polished tannins, concluding long, rich and very moreish.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
