With nearly 30 years spent making Penfolds Grange and developing the RWT label at Penfolds, John Duval qualifies as one of Australia's living wine legends. In 2003 he launched John Duval Wines and wasted no time sourcing some of South Australia's finest fruit. “After 35 years in the business, I know who the best growers are,” comments Duval. Today, John is joined by his son Tim who assists with both winemaking and marketing.

2018 was an outstanding vintage in the Barossa, John & Tim Duval commenting “We believe 2018 will produce many exceptional wines, with Eden Valley Shiraz, in particular, appearing amongst the best in living memory.” Fruit was sourced from old vineyards in the Krondorf, Ebenezer, Moppa, Light Pass and Eden Valley districts, the final blend being made from 48% Barossa Valley and 52% Eden Valley fruit. Maturation took place in French oak (31% new) for a period of 17 months.

A magnificent take on modern Barossa Shiraz that’s pure class.

Impenetrable pitch black heart with a very deep dark purple black hue. Soaring from the glass are perfumed like aromatics of violets, dark plums, liquorice and blackberries which are trailed by notions of ripe blueberries, vanillin cedar, fennel and spice. Rich and generating incredible power are lavish blue to dark fruits which are underpinned by an enlivening freshness. Sumptuous dark plum, liquorice, blueberry and blackberry flavours are perfectly integrated with the spicy vanillin cedar characters. Adding interest are notions of fennel, subtle earth and pepper. Superb power and depth with refined, silk like tannins leading into a sleek and exceptionally long aftertaste.
Drink over the next 8-10 years.
