Impenetrable inky black heart with a very deep dark red black hue. The nose generates aromas of blackberry, dark plum and liquorice that show good intensity. Vanillin cedar, subtle fennel and light spicy earth notes ensue. Rich, bright and succulent, the palate is awash with spicy dark plum and liquorice fruits which overlay inky earth, vanillin cedar and pepper elements. Slightly dryish tannins along with vibrant youthful acidity provide structure. Excellent power concluding juicy and lively.

Oh come all ye faithful lovers of McLaren Vale shiraz. It's hard to say whether the variety or the region is the most important - and true - contributor to the depth and outright richness of this shiraz. The tannins also ring true to the theme, leaving no doubt about its longevity. Drink by 2038.
