A blend of 82% Shiraz and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Shiraz vines are aged between 30 and 100 years old, and the Cabernet between 30 and 130. Yields are 2.5 tonnes per hectare with the fruit fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters and hand plunged 3 times daily. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak hogshead barrels (92% French and 8% American). Ben Glaetzer comments that the 2018 wines are of exceptional quality featuring intense depth of colour, astounding aromatic purity plus richness and brightness on the palate.

The 2018 Glaetzer Anaperenna is a perfect reflection of the outstanding vintage conditions.

Magnificent colour with an impenetrable pitch black core and a very deep dark purple black hue. A hedonistic mix of blackberry, cassis and liquorice wafts through the nostrils followed by dark plum, hints of blueberry, vanillin cedar, subtle dried herbs and spice. Full in body the palate is flush with blackberry, cassis, liquorice and dark plum fruits tinged by traces of a blueberry like freshness. Vanillin cedar, subtle scorched earth, faint tobacco and spicy pepper elements sit underneath. Structured tannins provide an excellent framework yet are quite velvet like in their feel. Bright youthful finish with a long seductive aftertaste.

For the 2018 Anaperenna Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon, Glaetzer blended in 18% Cabernet Sauvignon to give the wine increased fragrance and length. The nose is smoky, slightly herbal and marked by sweet cedar- and vanilla-tinged oak, but it also offers great cassis and blackberry fruit. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the flavors are kept nicely in check by fine-grained tannins. This wine has it all: terrific intensity, complexity, length and texture. Drink 2022-2035.
