Winemaker Julia Weirich in collaboration with the Sons of Eden boys, has produced a superb GSM from the brilliant 2018 vintage. Julia is German in heritage but gypsy at heart, having worked all over the world, honing her skills in wineries including Bass Phillip in Australia, Yealands in New Zealand, Le Grappin in Burgundy and Mulderbosch in South Africa. Upon returning to Australia she set about making wine for herself with the help of the well-known dynamic team behind Sons of Eden.
Fruit was sourced from three different sub regions of the Barossa Valley, the Grenache from Rowland Flat, the Shiraz from the Western Ridge and the Mourvedre from the Light Pass district. The Grenache portion seeing a 20% whole bunch inclusion. Each vineyard parcel was fermented and matured separately with aging taking place in a range of seasoned oak barrels for a period of 10 months. The final blend 46% Grenache, 29% Shiraz and 25% Mourvedre.

Rich, fleshy and powerful, this is an uber delicious GSM.

Black as night core with a dark red black tinged hue. Streaming out of the glass with great potency are ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark raspberry aromatics trailed by subtle vanillin cedar, light scorched earth, dried herb and pepper notes. Medium to full bodied the wine possesses a deep well of fruit that shows tremendous richness and intensity. Plush in its feel the palate is flooded with waves of succulent dark raspberry, liquorice and blackberry fruits. Lying underneath are nuances of blueberry, faintly toasted vanillin oak, earthy dried herbs and spicy pepper. Finishes with a nicely balanced freshness, silky smooth tannins and a long moreish aftertaste that will surely seduce you into pouring another glass.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
