Over the last 30 years, the Languedoc region in Southern France has been striving to break away from a not so glorious past. It is nowadays considered a treasure trove for wine and food lovers, thanks to a number of investors from France and around the world, who like the Romans did in their days, recognised the region's stunning potential. One of the many ventures is Chateau Puech Haut, located in the village of Saint Drezery, north east of the city of Montpellier. Their lighter coloured style of rosé is akin to what the French call "Vin Gris", usually enjoyed with Summer Mediterranean dishes like grilled fish, tian (a cold vegetable flan) and salads, but also as an aperitif with finger foods. Made as a "Rose de presse" (juice straight off the press), the grapes are pressed rather than macerated (as is the case in a "Rose de Saignee"). Chateau Puech Haut employ Grenache and Cinsault for this wine, which is fermented in thermo regulated stainless steel over twenty days to increase flavour intensity.

Translucent damask pink tinged colour with a watery hue. Blossoming from the glass are lovely perfumed like aromatics of strawberries, raspberries and fresh peaches which are overlaid by rose petals and subtle musk. With its intensity of flavour and beautifully textured supple mouthfeel, it’s no surprise that this by far and away our biggest selling Rose. Strawberries, fresh peaches, raspberries and infusions of musk fill the mouth over delicate stony characters and spice. Finishes dry with perfectly balanced natural acidity. Long delicious conclusion of fresh peach, winter strawberry, light musk, faint wet stone and spice.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
Alc. 13%

Other Reviews….
The 2017 Prestige Rosé is another beautiful rosé from this estate. Spice, underbrush, cherries, citrus blossom and beautiful minerality all emerge from the glass and it’s rich, yet also fresh and crisp. It's a food rosé to drink over the coming year. It’s a blend of 60/40 Grenache and Cinsault aged in tank.

Super-pale onion-skin colour. A light veil of smokiness over fresh rhubarb. Savoury rather than sweet – creamy almonds with a feather brush of nectarine and spice on a palate flooded with morning light. Fine, fine balance. On tiptoe. Hard to pin down … almost diaphanous, and yet there is a tightly wired intensity.  Drink 2018-2021.
