Marcus Schulz is a fifth generation Barossan grape grower of German descent. Marcus was Dave’s first ever grower and first sold him fruit in 1994, which was Shiraz from his old vine site in Koonunga Hill. This is the only single vineyard wine produced by Powell & Son where the vineyard not managed by Callum and Dave Powell, but could not be in more capable hands than those of Marcus Schulz. The vines are 80 years old and maturation took place in French oak barriques for 18 months.

Rich, deep and extraordinary opulent, this is the essence of Barossa Valley Shiraz.

Spectacular colour saturation featuring a pitch black core that’s totally impenetrable with an equally deep dark red black hue. Wafting out of the glass are heady aromatics of blackberry, dark plums and liquorice with a whiff of black cherries also evident. Hints of liquorice allsorts, dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice then ensue. A massive wave of lavish ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruit hits the palate with tsunami like power, flooding every corner of the mouth. Smoky vanillin oak, dark chocolate, traces of fennel and spice the undercard. Finishes with an energetic freshness and firmly structured yet very plush tannins. An exceptionally long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice, dark plum, dark chocolate, vanillin oak, subtle earthy fennel and spice is delivered with tremendous richness and drive.
Cellar 8-10 years.
