Established in 1955 by former Czech vigneron Paul Osicka, this is Heathcote’s oldest producer. Today, his son Paul and grandson Simon tend the 10 hectares of Shiraz vineyard producing a rich, highly revered Shiraz that disappears off the shelves within months of release. Fruit grown on different soil types was picked and fermented separately in small open top pots. With extended time on skins the wine was pressed and then matured in French Oak for 14 months, including 20% new oak.

A rich and exceptionally long Shiraz from one of Heathcote’s most iconic producers.

Totally opaque midnight black core with a dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas flow out of the glass with an undercurrent of vanillin cedar, subtle fennel and spicy pepper. Opulently textured the palate doesn’t fail to deliver on Heathcote’s hallmark richness and power with dark plum, blackberry and liquorice flavours flooding the mouth over vanillin oak and subtle dried clove infusions. There’s also plenty of spice and blackpepper on the finish. Sturdy yet simultaneously velvet like tannins provide a great chassis for the fruit to work around. Exceptional length and persistence with a long spicy blackberry, dark plum, liquorice, vanillin oak, delicate dried clove and blackpepper infused aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
