First released in 1977 this wine has long been the standard bearer of Leconfield stable with some superb wines produced under the label including the unforgettable 1998 vintage. Maturation took place in French oak (43% new) for a period of 18 months.

All elegance and style, this is a wonderful expression of Coonawarra Cabernet.

Midnight black core with a deep dark red black hue. Sailing out of the glass is an intense bouquet of blackcurrant infused with bay leaf followed by cedary tobacco characters, hints of black olive and spice. Medium to full in body, rich blackcurrant and mulberry fruits sit over infusions of bay leaf, vanillin cedar, light tobacco and spice. Fine grained tannins and youthful, slightly edgy acidity provide the framework. Good length with a long, refined aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
The star variety in the stable, and a step up from the other Bordeaux varieties and blends. This is sourced predominately from the older planting circa '74-'88. Dark purple-red, opulent ripe black fruit, a hint of mint and leaf with matching levels of spice and toast from 18 months in 43% new oak. Tannins are fine gravel. Concentrated, dense yet composed. Should age well. Drink by 2035.
