The Kurtz family are fifth generation Barossans of German descent whose vineyard plantings date back to the 1930’s. Together with later plantings and acquisitions in the 1950’s and 1960’s winemaker Steve Kurtz has access to significant old vine fruit to craft his wines. For the 2017 Boundary Row Shiraz parcels of fruit were selected from low yielding vines located in the Barossa Valley sub region of Light Pass and maturation took place in a combination of seasoned and new French oak for 26 months.

This heavy hitter is all out pedal to the metal power delivered with a flamboyant decadence.

Dense inky black colour with an equally deep black dark red hue. Heady ripe black cherry, blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate aromas explode out of the glass with smoky vanillin oak, earthy fennel and pepper notes also evident. Decadently rich, coating the palate is a thick layer of voluptuous blackberry, black plum and liquorice fruits which morph into toasty vanillin oak, mocha, subtle spicy earth and pepper. There’s ample amounts of oak here by this is more than offset by the incredible density of fruit which is framed by medium grained, velvet like tannins which give the back palate a sturdy feel. Concludes long, lavish and extravagantly rich.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
