Kalleske’s Moppa Shiraz is named after the small district of Moppa, just North of Greenock, where the Kalleske farm and vineyard was established in 1853. Sourced entirely from Kalleske’s Moppa vineyard, a trace of Petit Verdot (7%) and Viognier (3%) has been added to this Shiraz to enhance complexity. Aging took place in mixture of French, American and Hungarian oak (25% new) for a period of 13 months. Vintage 2017 was stunning, yields were good and quality is exceptional according to winemaker Troy Kalleske.

From the stunning 2017 vintage this rich, texturally polished Barossa Shiraz delivers the goods.

Certified organic this Shiraz displays outstanding depth of colour with a black as night core and deep dark red black tinged hue. Intense dark plum, blackberry and liquorice aromas float over a back drop of subtle fennel, vanillin cedar, faint dark chocolate and spice. Rich and layered with a huge core of ripe fruit that rolls across the palate like liquid silk, powerful flavours of blackberries, dark plums and liquorice saturate the mouth. Underneath this opulence of fruit is complexing elements of lightly smoked vanillin cedar, traces of dried clove and spice. Very plush with velvety tannins. Excellent length with a rich, luscious conclusion of dark plum, blackberries, liquorice, vanillin cedar, subtle dried clove and spice.
Cellar 5-6 years.
