2017 Gibson The Smithy Shiraz Cabernet

Shiraz Cabernet blends have been the engine room for South Australian reds since the 1950’s. The Smithy is Rob Gibson’s take on this classic Australian blend – a rich, plush Barossa red that delivers great value.
A blend of 52% Shiraz and 48% Cabernet Sauvignon matured for 20 months in a mixture of 60% French oak and 40% American oak barrels. Midnight black colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Heady blackcurrant and liquorice aromatics meld into cedary tobacco notes with some subtle dark chocolate, dried herbs, earth and spice also evident. Plush on entry, the rich medium to full bodied palate is filled with ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and liquorice fruits. Lying underneath are nuances of vanillin cedar, subtle scorched earth, dark chocolate, dried herbs and spicy tobacco. Polished yet structured tannins with a long sumptuous aftertaste.
