Giaconda’s Pinot Noir has seen new plantings and clones incorporated into the blend. The richer soils and cooler location of these plantings has resulted in much later ripening, which enables the vines to produce enhanced flavour complexity while retaining better acidity and building finer tannin structure. This has resulted in what Rick & Nathan Kinzbrunner consider to be “one of the best expressions of pinot we have achieved at Giaconda so far.”

Semi translucent dark red colour with black tinged edges and a light red hue. Very expressive, the fragrant nose offers up violet tinged scents of ripe cherries and wild strawberries which are overlaid by anise, smoky cedar, subtle clove and spice. Delicious flavours of dark cherries and ripe strawberries infused with clove show great drive and intensity and are underscored by elements of smoky cedar, traces of anise, forest floor and spicy dried herbs. Wonderfully supple in its mouthfeel with an expansive peacock tail like finish. Velvet smooth tannins, good balanced fresh acidity concluding very long and moreish on the aftertaste. An exceptional Pinot and perhaps Giaconda’s best yet.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14%

Other Reviews.....
Dried berries with plums and fresh spearmint character. Medium to full body. Firm and round tannins and a structured mouthfeel in the finish. Muscular pinot. Better after 2022, but already delicious to taste or drink. Screw cap.

In the tradition of Giaconda Estate Pinots, generosity is a subtext to red and black cherry fruit, the tannins underpin the length of a wine of great quality. The vintage was perfect for pinot, giving the certainty of at least 10 years development of spice and violets amongst other secondary characters. Drink by 2032.
