The Farr Rising Pinot Noir never fails to impress, often going toe to toe in quality with its bigger By Farr siblings. Much more approachable in their youth, recent back vintage tastings show they also have excellent cellaring potential over the medium term. On a comparative basis to Burgundy it delivers great value for money.

The fruit for this wine is grown on two different sites at the winery in Bannockburn. The first site is a mixture of 114 and 115 pinot clones in a loam soil with iron stone pebbles, the second is the MV6 clone planted in black volcanic soil over loamstone. The fruit is hand harvested and sorted in the vineyard and fermented in open-top fermenters of which 60% to 70% of the fruit is typically destemmed. The wine is matured in Allier barrels (20-30% new) for 18 months.

Supple and super delicious with a long expansive finish that fans out like a peacock’s tail.

Semi translucent, slightly cloudy, bright dark red colour with a light crimson hue. Captivating scents of violet laced ripe red cherries, winter strawberries and a faint whiff of red currant flow through the nostrils showing great intensity. Gamey forest floor, subtle dried clove, well integrated cedar and spicy dried herbs all add further interest to complete a complex picture. Elegant and supple in the mouth, generous ripe red cherry, winter strawberry and juicy red currant flavours power across the palate delivering fantastic drive. Underscoring the delicious ripe red fruits are subtle infusions of violets, light vanillin cedar, forest floor and spicy dried herbs. Superb tannin/acid balance with a very long ripe cherry, strawberry, red currant, delicate clove, vanillin cedar, forest floor and wild herb aftertaste.
