2016 Torbreck Run Rig

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$350. 00
Bottle
$4200.00 Dozen
Cellar: 6 - 8 Years (2025-2027)
ABV: 15%
Closure: Cork

Produced from a blend of 98% Shiraz and 2% Viognier sourced from the Lyndoch, Rowland Flat, Moppa, Ebenezer and Light Pass districts of Barossa Valley. The wine was matured in a combination of new (50%) and older French barriques for a period of 30 months.

Totally impenetrable the wine displays an inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Wafting through the nostrils are intoxicating aromas of dark plum, liquorice, blackberries and black cherries with hints of dried apricot, vanillin oak, fennel and light pepper ensuing. Rich, dense and voluptuous the palate puts on a stunning show of decadence with opulent dark plum, liquorice and dark chocolate flavours sitting over a back drop of toasty vanillin oak, traces of clove and fennel, faint honeysuckle, scorched earth and spicy pepper. Magnificent power and depth with the lavish fruit caressed by cashmere like tannins that nonetheless possess a sturdy underbelly and provide great structure. Luxurious and exceptionally long finish.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 15%

Other Reviews….
A blend of 98% Shiraz and 2% Viognier made just prior to bottling, the 2016 RunRig is a complete masterpiece. It kicks off with elegant notes of pencil shavings accenting blueberries and blackberries on the nose, then shows incredible, palate-staining intensity of fruit in the mouth. It's full-bodied, plush and velvety without being unstructured and manages to be fruit-forward yet savory on the long-lasting finish, where it picks up hints of mocha and black olives. This should be drinkable with pleasure throughout its entire two-decade life (it may live longer from cold cellars or in larger formats), but if I were lucky enough to have a bottle or two, I'd try the first one about 10 years out.
Drink 2019-2035.
