2016 Squitchy Lane Vineyard Chardonnay

Brilliant very pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Aromas of white peaches and nectarines marry into some dried honey notes with hints of citrus, nougat and flint also present. A very elegant expression, this Chardonnay has delicate white peach, nectarine and citrus flavours unfolding across the palate with elements of light nougat and a subtle flintiness following on. Finishes dry with vibrant acidity and a medium length aftertaste.

Be careful when you pick the bottle up - it's as heavy as any red wine battleship. It's a paradox then, that the wine should be so fresh and breezy, with the acidity that sticks to the gums requiring repeated removal work. Pink grapefruit and Granny Smith apple have snuck into the grapes and survived fermentation, oak not getting in the way. Drink by 2030.
