One of the hottest and driest beginnings to a season in Heathcote meant the vines put out very little shoot growth resulting in Sanguine Estate producing less than half their normal crop. To keep the vines healthy during the unrelenting heat fruit thinning was undertaken, the resultant wines rich, concentrated and vibrant. Maturation took place in predominately French oak barriques, approximately 10% new, for 18 months.

Magnificent dense, inky black core with an equally deep dark purple black hue. Leaping out of the glass are powerful aromatics of ripe blackberries, liquorice and black cherries which intermingle with vanillin cedar, traces of dried meats and loads of pepper and spice. Intensely concentrated this full bodied Heathcote Shiraz is flooded with decadently rich blackberry, liquorice and black cherry flavours supported by an undercard of subtlety smoked vanillin cedar, elements of crushed rock and a blackpepper infused finish. Holding everything in line is a robust, firmly built plate of tannins which provides the wine with its underlying muscle. Very long blackberry, liquorice, black cherry, vanillin cedar, subtle smoky earth and blackpepper aftertaste.
