Over the last 30 years, the Languedoc region in Southern France has been striving to break away from a not so glorious past. It is nowadays considered a treasure trove for wine and food lovers, thanks to a number of investors from France and around the world, who like the Romans did in their days, recognised the region's stunning potential. One of the many ventures is Chateau Puech Haut, located in the village of Saint Drezery, north east of the city of Montpellie. Their lighter coloured style of rosé is akin to what the French call "Vin Gris", usually enjoyed with Summer Mediteranean dishes like grilled fish, tian (a cold vegetable flan) and salads, but also as an aperitif with finger foods. Made as a "Rose de presse" (juice straight off the press), the grapes are pressed rather than macerated (as is the case in a "Rose de Saignee"). Chateau Puech Haut employ Grenache and Cinsault for this wine, which is fermented in thermo regulated stainless steel over twenty days to increase flavour intensity.
Our top selling Rose by a long shot and for good reason.
Translucent damask pink tinged colour with a watery hue. A fragrant bouquet of peaches and strawberries laced with musk rises from the glass followed by stony end notes. A shade lighter and a touch more elegant than the 2015 vintage, the wonderfully textured palate has a round stony feel to it featuring flavours of strawberries and infusions of peach over subtle musk and wet stone nuances. Dry spicy finish. Good length with a long aftertaste of spiced strawberries, some peach infusions, traces of musk and wet stone.
Drink over next 1-2 years.
Beautiful as always, the 2016 Saint Drezery Prestige Rose offers clean, crisp notes of white peach, strawberries and hints of flowers. It’s a terrific, medium-bodied, elegant beauty to buy by the case.
