Sourced from the original Penny’s Hill vineyard, its slightly higher elevation means it enjoys a climate a little cooler than the rest of McLaren Vale. This ensures more consistent temperatures throughout the ripening period, allowing Shiraz to reach optimum ripeness with minimum stress. Individual blocks were harvested and vinified separately to best express the variation in terroir. Fruit was crushed and fermented on skins in open fermenters for 10 days prior to pressing. Maturation was in French oak of which approximately 40% was new oak. The balance was matured in 1, 2 and 3 year old oak and after 18 months the final wine was blended.

Rich and powerful, this is a hedonistic McLaren Vale Shiraz that soaks in the palate with decadent black fruits.

Fantastic colour displaying a saturated pitch black core with an equally deep dark purple black hue. Intoxicating ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum aromas waft through the nostrils with some black cherry, vanillin cedar, hints of dark chocolate and spice notes in hot pursuit. Rich and dense with a luxurious feel, the big full bodied palate is driven by opulent blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and black cherry flavours which are supported by a sturdy, solidly built tannin structure which gives the finish some grip and a slight chewy feel. Underneath the lavishly appointed layers of fruit are elements of vanillin cedar and spice. Showing impressive torque the wine powers through to a long finish of succulent blackberries, liquorice, dark plums, black cherries, vanillin oak, subtle dark chocolate and spice.
