Mark Maxwell and his family established Maxwell wines in 1979 and for many years were best known for their Honey Mead (which is still available). The Silver Hammer takes its name from a famous song by four famous performers from the 1960's (if you can't guess who they are, you are probably too young to be reading wine reviews!). The wine was matured for 16 months in new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.

Rich, plush and velvety this classically styled McLaren Vale Shiraz delivers fantastic value.

Totally opaque black as night dark red colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Luscious ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice aromas ooze from the glass with hints of dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice also evident. Lashings of rich succulently textured dark fruits flood the mouth. Juicy blackberry, liquorice and dark plum flavours are to the fore with notions of dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice underscoring the lavish fruit. Velvety mouthfeel with very refined perfectly integrated tannins. Showing excellent depth and power for its price it concludes with a lengthy aftertaste of blackberries, dark plums, liquorice, vanillin oak and spice.
Drink this budget priced beauty over the next 5-6 years.
