2016 Louis Michel & Fils Montee de Tonnerre Chablis Premier Cru

Chablis, FRANCE
$69. 99
Bottle
$839.88 Dozen
Cellar: Drink now - 5 Years (2020-2025)
ABV: 13%
Closure: Stelvin

Located on the right bank of the river Serein - as with the grands crus - the Montée de Tonnerre is the most prestigious of all the Chablis premiers crus.

Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Pronounced green pear and lime aromas have a distinct overtone of wet slate with elements of faint dried honey, fresh herbs and an oyster shell like salinity also evident. The palate is a delightful combination of intensity, freshness and a rounded pebble stone like textural feel that features mouthfilling flavours of pears, limes, subtle green apple and wet slate. Infusions of fresh herbs, light dried honey and flinty mineral characters are also present. Dry refreshing finish possessing superb acid balance and depth right through to the long aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc. 13%

Other Reviews….
This is a wine of power, energy and breadth, made from 3ha of vines in this fine right bank site just south of the grands crus. Like Michel’s village Chablis it’s still an infant, but you can sense its density and power quietly building like water behind a dam. Elemental, brooding notes reminiscent of plant sap and ground stone lurk in that resonant, aromatic inarticulacy, yet its mute force succeeds in seeming concentrated, close-grained and sheer in the mouth.

Andrew Jefford – Decanter

A very impressive and quite classical nose with grapefruit, lime peel, nectarine and dried flowers with a stony edge. The palate’s very neatly forged with a wealth of ripe white peaches. A very succulent, long and complete shape. Drink now or hold.
