The Apricot Block vineyard was planted in 1995 where an old Apricot orchard once was. Cropped at 1.2 to 2.0 tonnes per acre the wine is matured in Amercian oak hogsheads, mostly seasoned for 27 months. Magnificent colour density displaying an impenetrable inky black core with an equally deep dark red black hue. Potent ripe blackberry, liquorice, black cherry and black plum aromas waft out of the glass with dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spicy fennel in hot pursuit. Thick, heavy, ultra rich and possessing a liqueur like texture the palate is swamped with ripe blackberry, liquorice, black cherry and dark plum fruit which saturates every corner of the mouth. Sitting beneath is vanillin oak, dark chocolate and spice. Sturdy yet velvet like tannins with no discernible heat evident. Outstanding power with a long blockbuster finish.
Drink this hedonistic Shiraz over the next 4-5 years.
