The distinctive labels of the Glaetzer portfolio hold special significance when you view this stunning collection of wines as a family affair. The entry level Bishop Shiraz is named in honour of Ben's mother, Judith (Bishop being her maiden name). The label bears the sign of Venus, which has come to represent women and feminine energy. Glaetzer sources fruit for the Bishop from the Ebenezer district of the Barossa valley from low yielding 35 year old to 120 year-old vines. He finds the fruit from younger vines contributes freshness & vibrancy, while Shiraz from the older blocks provides structure and depth. The 2016 vintage produced outstanding wines that feature lifted pure red fruit characteristics, savoury tannins, great depth of flavour and sheer colour intensity. Maturation took place in a combination of 90% French oak and 10% American oak for a period of 16 months of which 40% was new oak.

Superb power with dense opulent fruits saturating the mouth over a sturdy backbone.

Impressively coloured the wine displays a dense inky black core with a deep dark purple black hue. A pronounced nose sends aromatics of liquorice, ripe black cherries and blackberries sailing through the olfactory senses. Nuances of lightly toasted vanillin cedar, dark plum and blackpepper ensue. Full bodied, lavish flavours of liquorice, dark plums and black cherries cascade across the palate underscored by a touch of blueberry, lightly toasted vanillin cedar, notions of crushed rock and blackpepper. The wine is carried by a sturdy yet ripe tannin structure and balanced acidity that add some muscle to the opulence. Superb power wave with the richness of fruit shining through on a long finish of peppered liquorice, dark plum, black cherries, crushed rock and lightly toasted vanillin cedar.
