Inky black core that’s totally impenetrable with a deep dark red black hue. Alluring ripe black cherry, liquorice and blackpepper aromas waft out of the glass followed by smoked meats, scorched earth and spicy white pepper notes. Powerful and rich with a dense, muscular texture, the palate is swamped with opulent black cherry, liquorice and black raspberry flavours that are infused with blackpepper. Lying beneath are elements of smoky dried meats, scorched earth, graphite and spice elements. Ripe but firm tannins make for a dryish and slightly grippy finish. Outstanding depth and intensity with a long chewy aftertaste filled with black fruit and laced with pepper.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
A rock star in the vintage, the 2016 Rasteau Cuvée Prestige offers more cedary garrigue, graphite, earth, and chocolate-laced dark fruits. It’s big, rich, beautifully concentrated, with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and will have 10-15 years of prime drinking. Drink 2018-2033.

The 2016 Rasteau Prestige comes from vines 30-50 years old. A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, it starts with aromas of crushed stone and ripe black fruits. Full-bodied and richly concentrated, it picks up hints of cocoa and garrigue on the long, dusty finish. Drink 2020-2030.
