One of Rasteau’s leading estates, Domaine La Soumade was established by Andre Romero in 1979. Today the estate covers 26 hectares and Andre’s son, Frederic, along with the assistance of renown consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt are in charge of winemaking.

Impenetrable black core with a deep bright dark red black hue. Nosing offers up pronounced aromas black raspberry and liquorice over black cherries, scorched earth, subtle herbs du Provence notes and pepper. Rich with a chewy mouthfeel and loaded with pepper and spice, the palate is filled with black cherry and liquorice fruit which overlays elements of scorched earth and dried herbs. Good freshness with sturdy tannins providing plenty of structure. Finishes with a burst of blackpepper on the long aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews….
Even the young-vine Rasteau (from ten to 30 years old) is terrific in 2016, boasting wonderful black cherry fruit. The 2016 Rasteau is 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre, yielding a full-bodied wine that's dense and rich, velvety and long but best suited for near-term drinking. Drink 2018-2025.
