The Delys Vieilles Vignes is usually the most structured and age worthy wine produced by Daniel Bouland, however, the 2016 is a much more approachable wine than is normally the case. The fruit is from a single hectare of 90 year old vines located on the Morgon-Chiroubles border, at the end of the Corcelette valley. It was planted in 1926 on a south-east facing slope at 10,000 vines per hectare by Bouland’s grandfather.

“Daniel Bouland is one of the best winemakers in Morgon. Perhaps his profile is not as high as the likes of Lapierre or Foillard, but I think his wines are on the same quality level.” – Neil Martin, The Wine Advocate.

Very deep dark red black colour with a bright crimson hue. Fragrant ripe cherry aromas laced with a hint of violets and dried clove notes blossom from the glass followed by some red currant, earth and lightly peppered herbs. Light and fresh yet with a brooding power wave of flavour, the palate is blessed with a savoury profile of ripe cherries and red currants infused with dried clove over dried meats, earth and spicy herbs. Elegant meaty like mouthfeel with a dryish finish, vibrant but balanced acidity and fine grained tannins. Excellent depth and structure with a long graceful conclusion of spicy dark cherries, ripe red currant, dried clove, meaty earth like characters and dried herbs.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 13%

Brilliant violet. A complex, hugely perfumed bouquet evokes candied boysenberry, cherry liqueur, incense and smoky minerals, and a suave floral overtone slowly builds with aeration. Powerful yet lively, spice- and mineral-accented dark berry, violet pastille and musky rhubarb flavors provide a compelling interplay of depth and energy. Finishes sweet and extremely long, leaving behind zesty mineral, spice and floral notes. This stunning wine is a standout in this excellent Beaujolais vintage.
