Other Reviews....
The 2016 Magrez Fombrauge, a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, has a very intense, ambitious, hedonistic bouquet with blackberries, bilberry, crème de cassis and incense. It does not seem to convey a sense of place or possess the delineation and freshness of its peers, including those of Fombrauge. There is something predictable about the palate: big and bold, rich and heady, perhaps better defined than I have discerned other vintages but comparing it against the Fombrauge, it invests in decadence at the expense of detail and personality. It is a statement as much of a wine! If size matters then you will love this, although if given the option, I would choose to drink the Fombrauge.

A bit pumped-up in feel, with a hefty frame of baker's chocolate and coffee around a core of steeped plum and black cherry fruit. Has length, but stays relatively monotone as it's dominated by a loamy note. This tries to win on power and may have some fans.-J.M.

A rich and chewy red with lots of fruit and tannins. Full-bodied, big and rich. Yet this remains polished and balanced. Exciting fruit character throughout. About one third is made in terracotta jars.

This rich wine comes from a parcel totally separate from Fombrauge, but under the same ownership. It is dense, with firm tannins and ripe black-plum and berry fruits. The whole ensemble will form a powerful wine as it matures.

The 2016 Magrez-Fombrauge, 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, is a dark, sumptuous wine. Two-thirds of the juice is vinified in barrel, which gives the wine its textural depth and overall richness. Black stone fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, mocha, leather and licorice build into the huge finish. The 2016 is not especially subtle, but it is impeccably balanced within its style.
