2015 Vickery EVR 103 ZV Riesling

John Vickery is a legend of the Australian wine industry and is widely acknowledged as the old master of Riesling. His illustrious career spans over 50 years at the likes of Leo Buring and Richmond Grove during which time he amassed more than 50 Trophies and over 400 gold medals. He was also responsible for the re-introduction of screw caps with his 1998 Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling. Vickery wines are made in collaboration with Philip Lehmann, son of Peter Lehmann.

Vickery’s first Eden Valley rendition is a Triumph

Fruit for the 2015 Eden Valley Riesling is sourced entirely from two of the Zander family vineyards in the Flaxman’s Valley area of Eden Valley. The ‘Quarry’ block’s 38-year old vines produce fruit with high flavour intensity, while the grapes from the high elevation (500m) ‘Kosi’ block bring acidity and structure.

Brilliant water like colour with a very faint greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. Zesty lemon and lime scents fill the nostrils alongside some orange rind, talc and flinty mineral. Refreshing with lively acidity and outstanding fruit purity, the palate features concentrated lemon and lime flavours over orange rind, subtle talc and steely mineral with a crisp tangy finish. Long aftertaste of lemon, lime, orange rind and steely mineral.
