2015 The Lane Vineyard Block 14 Basket Press Shiraz

Totally opaque black dark purple core with a bright dark purple hue. Nosing reveals aromas of dried meats, subtle liquorice, scorched earth and black olive all infused with blackpepper. The elegant, solidly built, pepper infused palate has flavours of liquorice, blackberries and dried meats over spicy black olives and vanillin cedar. The pepperiness carrying right through to the dry finish. Firm muscular tannins give the wine a meaty textural feel. Medium to long blackpepper infused aftertaste of dried meats, liquorice, earthy black olives and spicy smoky vanillin cedar.

Ten percent whole bunches, 90% destemmed, matured for 9 months in used French puncheons. Good depth to the colour; black fruits lead the way, cherry and berry in equal parts. Controlled alcohol pays dividends on the long, medium to full-bodied palate. Tannins and oak have been skilfully handled, subtly adding to the complexity. Drink by 2035.
