Sons of Eden is a partnership between winemaker Corey Ryan and viticulturist Simon Cowham who both learnt their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley. The name of this wine is taken from Zephyrus, the Greek god of the west wind who is often depicted as a horse. The vineyards of the Barossa are regularly buffeted by cooling Westerly winds creating an ideal temperature range in which to slowly ripen Shiraz. A blend of cooler climate Eden Valley (39%) fruit and warmer Barossa Valley (61%) fruit sourced from a wide range of vineyard sites with vines aged between 18-60 years old. Maturation took place in a mix of new and seasoned oak hogsheads, predominately French, for a period of 18 months.

Rich, plushly textured and loaded with raw power, yet showing tremendous finesse.

Impenetrable inky black dark red core with a deep bright dark red black tinged hue. A brooding nose offers up potent aromatics of liquorice, dark plum and freshly picked blackberries underscored by hints of fennel, vanillin cedar and spice. Possessing tremendous richness, a supple seamlessly textured feel and mighty power the palate is flooded with succulent flavours of blackberries, dark plums and liquorice over a backdrop of vanillin cedar, traces of dried clove and spicy fennel. Outstanding concentration and length with deftly balanced silky like tannins. Exceptionally long aftertaste of ripe blackberries, dark plums, liquorice, vanillin cedar and subtle spicy fennel infusions. Very Limited stocks.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews….
From 18-60+yo vines in the Barossa (61%) and Eden Valleys (39%), various ferments, varying levels of whole bunch inclusion, all involving extended skin contact, matured in new and used French hogsheads for 18 months. A seriously complex and intense wine, combining raw power and finesse on the prodigiously long palate, piano keys from all parts of the keyboard being played from the opening stanza to the aftertaste, sour cherries and dried herbs, licorice and black pepper soprano to the bass of blackberry, in a coruscating display of daring to be different shiraz. Drink by 2040.
