Comprising the sub regions of Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porongurup the Great Southern district is currently producing some of the country’s best value Cabernet blends.

Singlefile’s 2015 blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 1% Malbec is an exemplary example of what the district is capable of delivering. Forty percent of the wine was matured in new Bordeaux oak barriques. The balance went to one year old (30%) and two year old (30%) Bordeaux barriques for ten months. It then received further seven months bottle age.

A classy Bordeaux style blend that champions Great Southern’s renown rich fruit characters.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced ripe blackcurrant and mulberry scents meld into some cedary tobacco characters, light earth and spicy dried herbs. Medium to full bodied the palate beautifully balances rich, mouthfilling fruit with a sturdy framework. Showing great varietal character, rich blackcurrant flavours are married to earthy mulberry characters and traces of liquorice over a backdrop of cedary tobacco characters, subtle infusions of bay leaf and spice. Dryish finish with fine grained yet solidly built tannins providing a touch of grip. Concludes with an aftertaste of spicy blackcurrants, earthy mulberries, cedary tobacco characters and dried herbs.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.1%

Other Reviews….
There's always a fineness and elegance to cabernet sauvignon from the Great Southern - the graphite, gum leaves, lapsang souchong tea, licorice currants and cassis. It's also medium-bodied with finely tuned slightly grippy tannins and an overall freshness. And no one will blink twice for drinking it now. Drink by 2028.
