2015 Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz

Texturally polished and bursting with rich opulent fruit there’s still plenty of structure lurking beneath this McLaren Vale beauty.

Excellent depth of colour displaying an inky black core with a deep red black hue. Expressive aromatics of ripe black cherries, liquorice and blackberries rise out of the glass overlaying lightly smoked vanillin cedar, hints of fennel and blackpepper. The rich full bodied palate is over flowing with opulently textured flavours of juicy ripe black cherries, liquorice, blackberries and dark plum underscored by smoky vanillin cedar, some meatiness and black pepper. There’s good structure to the sturdily built tannins yet they come across as almost velvet like due to the density of fruit. Outstanding power with a long peppery aftertaste of ripe black cherries, liquorice, blackberries, spicy dried meats and smoky cedar.

Quite apart from semaphoring its region on the fragrant bouquet, its price is mouthwatering, as are the multi-flavours in the mouth. Cherry, plum and blackberry all have their say, but there's not much point in arguing the cause of one or the other, just relax and enjoy. Drink by 2025.
