Mitchell’s Peppertree vineyard is dry grown and yielded just one tonne per acre from the near text book 2015 vintage. A component of whole bunch fruit was included in the fermentation to provide more perfumed lift on the nose and assist with tannin structure. Maturation took place in French oak barrels for a period of 18 months.
Impenetrable black dark red colour with a deep dark red hue. Marked blackberry and ripe plum scents are overlaid by a mix of liquorice and choc mint with light vanillin cedar, hints of earth and pepper ensuing. The rich, full bodied palate is loaded with plush blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits which are backed by a firmish tannin structure. Elements of toasty vanillin cedar, earth, a dash of mint and blackpepper ensue. Great length with a dryish finish, nicely balanced acidity and a long powerful aftertaste.
