Mark Maxwell and his family established Maxwell wines in 1979 and for many years were best known for their Honey Mead (which is still available). The Silver Hammer takes its name from a famous song by four famous performers from the 1960's (if you can't guess who they are, you are probably too young to be reading wine reviews!). The wine was matured for 16 months in new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.

A delicious, lavishly textured McLaren Vale Shiraz with an extraordinary generosity of fruit for its price.

Fantastic inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Pronounced ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice aromas are overlaid by toasty vanillin cedar with dark chocolate nuances and spice following on. Rich, opulently textured flavours of ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice drape themselves across the palate like satin sheets. Vanillin oak infusions, shades of dark chocolate and spice are also present. Velvet smooth tannins. Long sumptuous aftertaste of ripe blackberries, dark plums, liquorice, toasty vanillin cedar and spice. Amazing value.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc 14.5%
