Saint-Estèphe de Montrose is the Chateau Montrose’s third wine, sourced from younger vines. Previously available only to the estate’s owners and employees, it meets the same uncompromising quality standards as Château Montrose and La Dame de Montrose. From a terroir of gravel over clay subsoil it is aged 12 months in French oak (15% new). The 2015 vintage is a blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.

Totally opaque black dark red core with a bright dark red hue. Fragrant aromatics of blackcurrant, hints of black cherry and violets flow through the nostrils followed by some liquorice, ripe mulberries, lightly scorched vanillin cedar and spice. Quite robust in its feel the medium to full bodied palate possesses good richness with flavours of blackcurrant and subtle liquorice overlaying a background of cigar box, light black olives and spicy dried herbs. There’s a firmish feel to the tannins which keeps everything nicely compact. Medium to long conclusion of blackcurrant, mulberries, subtle liquorice, cigar box, black olives and spicy dried herbs.
Cellar 6-8 years.
