Sourced from vineyards planted in 1899 and 1965. Maturation took place in French oak, 25% new, with the balance in 2-3 year old French oak for a period of 14 months.
Impenetrable black as night core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Scented ripe blackberry, black cherry and liquorice aromas overlay hints of dark chocolate, subtlety smoked vanillin cedar and spice. The palate is typically Bogan in style, richly concentrated and possessing an opulent feel, the mouth flooded with ripe blackberry, liquorice and black cherry flavours which sit atop smoky vanillin cedar and spicy pepper nuances. Good underlying structure with sturdy tannins that are nonetheless velvet like in appearance. Excellent power with a long aftertaste of succulent ripe blackberries, liquorice, black cherries, smoky vanillin cedar and spicy pepper.
Cellar 5-6 years.
