The tiny Gomersal estate sits on some tough vineyard country, where both vines and viticulturalist are forced to struggle. Typically yields are no more than 1.5 tonnes per acre. Owner/viticulturalist, Barry White gets his recompense in his Shiraz.

The vineyard's unusual name came about after the outbreak of the First World War when the distrust of all things German reached such paranoiac proportions, that South Australian towns began to change their German sounding names to 'more respectable' English titles. 'New Mecklenburg' became 'Gomersal' – a name derived from a West Yorkshire village. Ironically, no one bothered to research the origin of the title, which turned out to be as German as the vineyard's founders.

A Gloriously rich, seductive and silky textured Gomersal Shiraz.

Matured in a combination of new and aged American oak hogsheads for 3 years. Impenetrable inky black colour with a very deep dark red black hue. Potent liquorice, dark chocolate and blackberry aromas flow through the nostrils followed by vanillin oak, traces of mocha and spice. Opulent, plush and decadent, a dense core of lavishly rich fruit saturates the palate. Seductive ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and dark plum flavours sit over elements of vanillin oak, earthy fennel and spicy mocha. Silky smooth tannins show much better integration than the 2013 vintage. Superb volume and power with a long ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate, dark plum, vanillin oak and spicy mocha aftertaste.
Drink this voluptuous beauty over the next 5-6 years.
