Deep dark red core with black tinged edges and a brick red hue. Spicy aromatics of red cherries, red currants and rose petals blossom from the glass followed by dried herbs, tobacco and dusty cedar. Delicious red currant and red cherry fruits show superb intensity of flavour and depth yet remain light on their feet as they cruise across the mid weighted palate. Complexing the picture are elements of earthy tobacco characters, dried herbs, dusty cedar and spice. Rustic, muscular like mouthfeel with bright acidity and sternly built tannins giving grip to the finish. Long savoury aftertaste. Destined to develop into something very special.
Cellar 10-15 years.
The purity of fruit on the nose is perfection with cherries, crushed raspberries, mineral, pumice and citrus fruit. Dust, too. Full body. Powerful, chewy tannins. So long and muscular, yet polished and formed. Most structured Brunello I have ever had from here. A wine for decades. Try after 2022.
Fuligni's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is dark and alluring, pulling me closer to the glass with each swirl, as a mix of ripe black cherry, rosemary, smoke, and moist earth lift from the glass, with sweet florals and a bit of animal musk developing over time. On the palate, it glides across the senses like silk, with ripe dark red fruits paving the way for sweet spice, as saline-minerals slowly saturate in a display that was perfectly balanced and not missing a single step. The finish is long, showing the first notes of tannic heft, with dried red fruits and minerals. The 2015 Fuligni Brunello balances its beautifully ripe fruit with classic tannins and a truly gorgeous perfumed character. It’s sure to have a lot of fans, and as it youthfully closes up in the glass. I can imagine a long life ahead for it.
