Father and son duo Gary & Nick Farr continue their run of hot form with this superb newly released 2015 Farr Rising Pinot Noir. Given that it’s right up there in terms of quality with it’s big brothers, the Farrside and Sangreal Pinots, this wine really over delivers. The fruit is grown on two different sites at the winery in Bannockburn. The first site is a mixture of 114 and 115 pinot clones in a loam soil with iron stone pebbles, the second is the MV6 clone planted in black volcanic soil over loamstone. The fruit is hand harvested and sorted in the vineyard and fermented in open-top fermenters of which 60% to 70% of the fruit is typically destemmed. The wine is matured in Allier barrels (25% new) for 18 months.

Winemaker Nick Farr has crafted a magnificent Geelong Pinot that compares in quality to the more illustrious By Farr Pinots and is a vinous steal when one considers the ever increasing prices of Burgundy.

Deep bright dark red colour with a tinge of black around the edges and a crimson red hue. Perfumed aromatically the nose displays scents of violets intermixed with ripe dark cherries and strawberries followed by subtle clove like infusions, some meatiness and spicy cedar. Light in weight, supple in texture and possessing an outstanding power wave the palate is filled with deliciously savoury flavours of dark cherries and strawberries overlaid by light clove, toasty oak, some meatiness and spice. Perfectly interwoven, velvet smooth tannins. Finishes very long and complex with an aftertaste of spicy dark cherries, strawberries, clove infusions, meaty characters and well integrated, subtlety toasted cedar.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%
