Still family owned and operated, this small Coonawarra vineyard has been evolving over the past 40+ years and now involves their daughter, Emma who has taken on the winemaking role whilst Doug is looking after the viticultural side of things. The Estate consists of 33 hectares of vines planted on the prized Coonawarra Terra Rosa soils. Established in 1972, the first vintage in 1975 was greeted with considerable enthusiasm.

A big, rich and very structured Bowen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon that will require some patience to reveal all its wares.

Superb inky black core, totally impenetrable, with a deep dark purple black hue. Scented aromatics of ripe blackcurrants, liquorice and hints of black cherry blossom from the glass followed by toasty vanillin cedar, a hint of black olives and spice. Big and possessing classical Bowen Estate richness, the 2015 rendition has a tight muscular structure. The palate is layered with inky blackcurrant, black cherry and liquorice flavours underpinned by toasty cedar and tobacco characters, black olives and spice. The firmly built tannins and bright acidity acting as place holders reigning in the fruit guaranteeing a long cellaring life. Dry finish with a compact muscular mouthfeel. Long inky black cherry, blackcurrant, liquorice, subtle cedary tobacco, black olive and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc 15.5%
