Mercurey is one of Burgundy's largest wine appellations by size of wine-growing area. Its Appellation d'Origin Protégée (AOP) was created in 1923. The vines are at an altitude of 230-320 metres and extend over the marls and marly-limestone soils of the Oxfordian. The wine was aged in oak for 14-16 months of which 20% was new.

Quite deep bright dark red core with black tinged edges and a red hue. Elevated red cherry and winter strawberry aromas tinged with hints of violets and fresh herbs emanate from the glass with subtle forest floor and spice notes also evident. Light in body there’s good depth to the red to dark cherry and winter strawberry fruit which sits confidently over savoury elements of forest floor, spicy cedar and fresh herb infusions. Bright finish, slightly dryish with refined tannins and a medium to long aftertaste. A great entry level Burgundy that doesn’t break the bank.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
