2014 proved to be a challenging vintage in general for the Heathcote district, a heavy frost hit the region just as flower set had begun and a large number of vineyards lost up to 80% of their crop. Tatiarra, situated at the base of Camel Mountain came through unscathed as the frost slide through without damaging the vines. Yet another dry vintage and temperatures in the mid 40’s meant water had to be trucked in as all dam supplies had been exhausted. Water is applied to keep the vines in perfect condition thus avoiding loss of foliage. Vintage started on the 5th March and finished on the 26th March allowing each section of the vineyards to be picked at their optimal point of ripeness. Tatiarra came through these trying conditions with a near perfect vintage, winemaker Ben Riggs ranking it just below the great 2013 vintage.
The 2014’s are an outstanding follow up vintage to the spectacular 2013’s. They’re not quite as structured as the 2013’s, being more forward, but still have the aching levels of richness that the 2013’s possessed offering a wide window of drinking pleasure. For fans of big Heathcote Shiraz it’s unlikely you’ll find better value.

Astonishing depth of colour with a totally opaque midnight black core and equally deep dark purple black hue. Potent liquorice, ripe blackberry and dark plum aromas fill the olfactory senses followed by some dark chocolate and vanillin oak with a hint of spicy mocha as an end note. Rich, open and more expressive than the 2013 at the same point in time the palate is saturated with densely concentrated flavours of liquorice, ripe blackberries and dark plum overlaid by blackpepper with underlying vanillin oak and spice. Magnificent fruit purity and despite its extravagant opulence there’s still structure aplenty in the refined velvety tannins. Outstanding power wave with a very long conclusion of liquorice, ripe blackberries, dark plum, vanillin oak and spicy blackpepper.
