2014 Reillys R Shiraz

Produced from a blend of the best fruit off the 15 year old St Clare vineyard and a parcel of fruit from the 1919 Home Block. The fruit from the 50 year old dry grown Home Block vineyard making up around 20% of blend adds depth to the wine. All parcels of fruit are basket pressed, then the wine spends 18 months in French and American oak barrels that have previously been used to mature The Reillys Dry Land and RCV Reserve Shiraz.

The Reillys R Shiraz always impresses with its depth of colour, richness and concentration, even more so given it’s entry level pricing. The 2014 opens with spectacular colour displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark purple black hue. Inky freshly crushed blackberry aromas combine with dark plum and liquorice over a background of vanillin cedar and confectionary. The palate boasts a level of richness and concentration rarely seen at this price point. Opulent and lusciously textured the palate features decadently rich flavours of ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark plums with underlying vanillin oak and spicy pepper also present. Silky smooth tannins. Long succulent aftertaste of blackberries, dark plum, liquorice and spicy vanillin oak.
