2014 Mr Riggs Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon

The fruit for this superb Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from two of the top growers in Coonawarra - Kym Tolley’s Penley Estate and Michael Wetherall’s Wetherall Estate. Picked on different days to allow for optimum ripening, parcels of fruit for the Mr. Riggs 2014 "Outpost" Coonawarra Cabernet were separately fermented in 5 and 8 tonne open fermenters. On skin fermentation was completed before pressings were sent to barrel for 13-17 months to complete fermentation in a 30% new French and 5% American oak combination.

An Outstanding vintage has produced a Coonawarra Cabernet of superb richness and classical structure.

Totally opaque black crimson red colour with a dark crimson red black tinged hue. Nosing reveals aromatics of blackcurrant, tobacco and subtle black olive over spicy cedar with hints of bay leaf as end notes. Medium to full bodied the palate is flooded with beautiful rich blackcurrant and mulberry fruit underpinned by some cedary tobacco characters, bay leaf and spice. Fantastic length. Very fine grained yet solidly built tannins are perfectly integrated. Long finish of blackcurrant, mulberry, cedary tobacco characters and light bay leaf.
