This blend of 60% Shiraz, 24% Grenache, 8% Mataro and 8% Viognier is a tribute to Henry Evans who planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Kyneton in 1853. The Viognier was co-fermented with Shiraz whilst the Grenache and Mataro were fermented separately. Maturation took place in seasoned French hogsheads for 10 months. Very deep dark purple black tinged colour with a dark purple hue. Perfumed scents of dark raspberries, liquorice and dark plum are overlaid by incense like aromatics and faint spicy dried apricot notes. Soft and supple the medium weighted palate is filled with succulent fruit flavours of dark raspberry, liquorice and dark plums with spicy incense infusions also present. Velvety tannins with a long aftertaste of spicy incense infused dark raspberry, liquorice and dark plum.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
