Brett Grocke is a 5th generation Barossan whose family have farmed and owned vineyards since the mid 1850’s. His day job is in viticulture managing around 14 vineyards across the Barossa and Eden Valleys and having just built a 50 tonne winery at Krondorf his hands are also full as a winemaker. Sourced from the Magnolia Road vineyard which includes plantings from 1896, 1965, 1996 and 2010, the Eperosa wines employ varying amounts of full bunch ferment which impart some smoky clove like characters. Some tasters might find these characteristics a distraction or a little too much (similar to the tobacco characters in Carmenere), but we feel if not overdone they can add some additional complexity and interest to Barossa’s trademark opulent richness.

Rich and opulent, yet complex and savoury this outstanding Barossa Shiraz has an edgy, exotic feel to it that sets it apart from most of its Barossa counterparts.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red purple tinged hue. Pronounced liquorice, dark plum and black cherry aromas are overlaid by complexing smoky clove like characters and fennel infusions with spicy dried meat end notes. Rich, opulent blackberry, liquorice and dark plum flavours are infused with smoky clove like characters underpinned by traces of fennel, some meatiness and spicy pepper. The solidly built tannins imparting a sense of firmness and provide the wine with its chewy, opulent textural feel. Excellent power and concentration with a long conclusion of spicy dark plum, liquorice, smoky clove infusions, dried meats and pepper.
Cellar 6-8 years.
