Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red black tinged hue. Pronounced ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas meld into subtle dried meat and spicy vanillin cedar notes with some pepper also evident. Medium to full bodied the palate is layered with rich blackberry, liquorice and dark cherry flavours which sit atop lightly smoked vanillin cedar, earthy dried meats and pepper. Slightly dryish finish with sturdy but well integrated tannins. Aftertaste of liquorice, blackpepper, ripe dark cherries, earthy dried meats and smoky vanillin cedar.
Cellar 5-6 years.

Other Reviews….
From the estate Carbunup Vineyard, whole berry fermentation in open and static fermenters, part pressed to barrel to finish fermentation, part fermented dry in tank, matured for 14 months in French barriques (20% new). Very, very different to its Five Tails sibling, spice and powdery oak tannins present from the outset, the red and black fruits also having their tannins in play. Five Tails is raring to go, this asks to be given more time, its quality and balance not in doubt. Drink by 2034.
