2014 Clos Clare Watervale Riesling

Brilliant pale straw colour with a distinctive glimmer of green around the rim and a watery hue. Top notes of lime and citrus meld into oily lemon butter like notes, light toast and wet steel. Intense lime and citrus fruits have a steely underbelly with elements of toast, subtle kerosene, lemon butter and flinty mineral characters also chiming in. Finishes dry with crunchy acidity and a long, still remarkably fresh aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Tasted 10/11/2014: From a 44yo dry-grown vineyard, hand-picked, chilled overnight, then whole bunch pressed. Apple and lemon blossom fragrance sets the scene for a particularly elegant and focused palate; while still in a primary phase, and very delicate, it has utterly perfect line, length and balance. Drink by 2029.
