2013 Valle Secreto Private Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Carmenere

A blend of 40% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Carmenere matured in new French oak for 18 months. Totally opaque black dark red core with a deep dark red hue. Pronounced liquorice and blackcurrant aromas are overlaid by prominent fresh tobacco/capsicum like notes with lightly scorched cedar, earth and spice ensuing. On the palate rich, smoothly textured flavours of blackberry, liquorice and blackcurrant dominate over fresh tobacco infusions which aren’t quite as pronounced as they are on the nose. Underlying scorched cedar, earth and spicy dried herbs are also present. Velvety tannins. Excellent length with a long blackberry, liquorice and blackcurrant aftertaste that’s infused with fresh tobacco, spicy dried herbs, scorched cedar and earth. The strong tobacco, dried herb characters that run through this wine may not be to everyone’s liking.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
